Lynn's Comments: Somebody (might have been me) suggested we shake up the bottles of pop, drink them and see who could burp the loudest. The guys thought this was a good idea, so they and I got the contest underway. Carolyn and the rest of the girls didn't want to get involved, but they didn't want to tell on us either–in case it was a cool scene.

Lynn's Comments: Say goodbye to a tidy living room…for 8 years past the youngest child’s birth. When time goes by and you finally have a tidy house, you miss the chaos!

Lynn's Comments: When copiers became commonplace, everyone squashed and copied their faces…and other personal things, as well. In one office at McMaster University, where a large copier was in constant use, I saw the distinct form of a cat pressed onto the plate glass surface. There were no photocopies left at the scene and there was no cat on the premises. The outcome of the caper was not known, but people did look for scratch marks on the arms of workers in the area.

Lynn's Comments: In order to be up to date, I read books on pregnancy. I became very aware of how many weeks along Elly was and how she would be feeling. If you start to think about these things, you start to feel them yourself. The idea of cravings made me want to buy stuff I didn’t ordinarily buy.

Lynn's Comments: As Elly became rounded, I became more and more preoccupied with how she looked and how she felt. I began to feel what she was feeling, and had to keep reminding myself that this was happening in the comic strip and not to me.

Lynn's Comments: An animator friend called me the other day. He’s been doing some work for us on "gifs" – short animated pieces that can be shared on the internet. His question was, "Can I show the bottom teeth of the dog if he's grimacing?" The answer was YES! Grimacing is the only time that my characters showed their bottom teeth!

Lynn's Comments: This comment was from an encounter I had with one of the people I met at "Wheelchair Rugby." I learned that it's rude for an able-bodied person to lean or sit on a wheelchair while talking to the occupant because the chair is effectively part of the user's body. I also learned that sitting down to talk to someone who is in a chair is a sign of respect and consideration. These are things I should have known instinctively, but did not. This was a wonderful education!

Lynn's Comments: This was MY dad! He could make up anything on the spot, and the way he read stories was hilarious. When my own kids were little, I turned stories around and made stuff up and the kids loved it. I'd learned from the best.
