John: Browse The Strips

Lynn's Comments: This, indeed, was what I experienced as a young mom. With a demanding job and many projects on the go, I hardly had time to think. I used to say, "If I didn't have to sleep, I could get SO MUCH done!"

Lynn's Comments: One year, the snow in Lynn Lake, Manitoba was perfect for snow forts. The temperature was above -15C, a rare phenomenon in this northern town. My husband took a shovel and followed Aaron, who must have been about 6, out to where there was a snow bank piled up by the grader. He dug and dug, and was so excited about his snow fort that Aaron got cold watching him and came home. He continued to dig until he realized he was alone. Then he continued to dig. The fort had become his! It must have been funny to see a grown man out there happy as a clam, full of fantasy, just being a kid in the snow.

Lynn's Comments: I laughed out loud when this idea came to mind. I remember looking up into the void and saying "Thanks" to the spirit who was writing this stuff.

Lynn's Comments: I remember feeling this way. It takes a long time to discover who your real, true friends are. Strangely enough, some of my true friends are people I have known since I was the same age as Elizabeth is in this strip.

Lynn's Comments: This really happened, but it was me who waited in the snow for the garbage truck. It took awhile to realize I was out there on the wrong day!

Lynn's Comments: The other punchline I had for this strip was the kid yelling in the last panel: "Don't touch me!" That idea has been done quite a lot, so I had the assistant fall asleep instead. This wasn't one of my best Sunday pages, but when you're on a deadline, you sometimes turn in something you're not crazy about. Here, I felt that the drawing was sufficiently well done to carry the strip, but when it came out in the paper, I wished I’d given it another ending!

Lynn's Comments: Strolling across the parking lot at Canadian Tire today, my partner Paul and I were talking about our past and how much fun we'd had. We wondered about the new generation of kids, and it occurred to us that right now, is THEIR "good old days!"

Lynn's Comments: I recently went to a nail spa. I rarely do this but it was a gift and I enjoyed being pampered. The young woman doing my nails had just had her lips injected with something that had made them red and swollen. I tactfully asked her about them and she said she was getting lip injections and Botox as well—to keep herself looking young. She couldn't have been more than 20 years old! I wonder what she will look like when she is my age.

Lynn's Comments: The curly hair story brought thanks from folks who were telling me to change Elly’s hair, complaints from folks who thought it was ugly, and very personal letters from women and men who were waiting for a hair disaster to grow out. Hair, it seems, is very serious stuff.

Lynn's Comments: The first boy-girl party I ever went to was at my friend Carolyn’s house. We were all about 13. It was an easy mix until the lights went down and we tried slow dancing. We had been taught how to waltz in gym class, but in a real basement with real couples, it was awkward.

Lynn's Comments: Somebody (might have been me) suggested we shake up the bottles of pop, drink them and see who could burp the loudest. The guys thought this was a good idea, so they and I got the contest underway. Carolyn and the rest of the girls didn't want to get involved, but they didn't want to tell on us either–in case it was a cool scene.

Lynn's Comments: I had a friend who added "ology" and "ality" to a number of words. Once the first "ology" came out, I couldn't listen to what he was saying. It was all "BS-ology" after that.
