Lynn's Comments: Aaron did bring a gift for each one of us--fortunately, there were no crabs. This idea came from one of my own attempts to keep wildlife. Trips to the beach on the west coast often included digging in the tide pools, where we'd find all kinds of neat sea creatures. One day I brought home a pail full of crabs, which I left in the trunk of the car. I didn't remember them until my mom said there was a horrible smell coming from the trunk. That smell stayed for weeks ... and so did Mom's anger!

Lynn's Comments: Boredom is the thing that drives kids to get into all kinds of mischief. It was hard to find stuff for my kids to do that wasn't electronic or fattening! This is where being "artsy-craftsy" came in handy. As long as I had art supplies, my kids had a project. I credit my mom for inventing many of the things we did!

Lynn's Comments: Another real incident--but I was the one who made the hole in the track pants and my mother was the one who couldn't imagine how it had happened!

Lynn's Comments: When my brother was moved to his new bedroom in the basement, I thought I'd love having a room to myself. My mother replaced the kiddie curtains with flowered drapes and made a bedspread to match. I had a new dressing table and a white headboard for my bed. It was a room to be proud of. Still, when the trees outside whistled in the wind and their branches made stark, skeletal patterns on the walls, I'd lie there, terrified. Now that I was alone, spooks, goblins, and other imaginary evils were coming nightly to "get me." During one very bad storm, my mother got out of bed to see if I was all right. As she opened the door to my room, lightning shook the house, and the flash turned my mother into a silhouette shrouded in a glowing, transparent gown. I screamed as hard as I could! She never did understand why I was so frightened by her--I couldn't explain what I'd seen. It was something I couldn't describe. This is the way I remember that evening.

Lynn's Comments: One of our traditions at Christmas was to clean out the fireplace. This was a good thing. We'd have forgotten otherwise. This is a pretty accurate illustration of our living room in Lynn Lake--complete with the crud on the rug.

Lynn's Comments: This was another true-to-life scenario. I was down and out. Katie brought me a blanket and offered to rub my back. True to the punch line, she now has two sweet kids and is a wonderful mother.

Lynn's Comments: Nope. Phil and Georgia are still happily married. Even though the saga has ended, the characters are still alive in my imagination!

Lynn's Comments: This Sunday page wasn't a brilliant piece of writing, but the visual fun of the yell, the swipe, and the "WHACK," made it worth sending in.

Lynn's Comments: This is another story from the heart. My son had bunk beds in his room and my daughter just had a single bed. It was much easier for him to host a friend for the night than it was for her. When I let Aaron have a boys only all-nighter, it seemed as if Katie was being left out of everything. Sometimes, it’s hard to make things even, especially when a kid wants equality NOW!

Lynn's Comments: Say goodbye to a tidy living room…for 8 years past the youngest child’s birth. When time goes by and you finally have a tidy house, you miss the chaos!

Lynn's Comments: When I was a kid, my bed could fly; I was convinced of it! With the covers over my head, my imagination took me everywhere and I sometimes fell asleep dreaming about flying. It's no wonder that many years later, I found myself marrying a pilot and learning how to fly!

Lynn's Comments: I don’t think I have ever been as exhausted as when I was up all night with my babies. My husband often said he'd take on half the nighttime routine, but when he had to go to work in the morning and I was nursing, it just made more sense for me to handle it all.

Lynn's Comments: This also happened. My son decided to see how far a spool of dental floss would go. He strung the stairwell and the hallway and even the kitchen before he ran out of floss. I would have been angry, but it’s hard to give serious discipline when you’re laughing!
