Lynn's Comments: This Sunday was the result of a "what if" scenario. I was in a department store change booth trying on bathing suits with a growing sense of doom. Everything seemed designed to accentuate my worst assets. My daughter was old enough to know not to escape and lead me on a chase through a busy mall, but the thought crossed my mind. What if I had to run out in public wearing the disastrous suit I was struggling into? This idea made its way onto the Sunday page, and the result was a flood of letters from other moms similarly disgusted by the cruel offerings foisted on us by bathing suit manufacturers.

Lynn's Comments: On one hand, the strip is retro...but sometimes, it shows life just as it is today. I guess things haven't changed that much!

Lynn's Comments: I looked forward to scenes like this just so I could make up the headings on the tabloids.

Lynn's Comments: Drawing Elly's expression in the last panel took a few tries. When the punch is just a small line on the bottom of a face, it's gotta be right!

Lynn's Comments: I did this strip to address the readers who insisted I change Elly’s hairstyle. As one of the main characters in the strip, I felt I had to keep her looking relatively the same. Over the years, she sported a pony tail, a bun, and at one time, I "gave" her a perm. Still, the part-in-the-middle-and-tied -back-look was her signature and I didn't want to alter it. The frump-look was firm. This strip let the critics know that I was aware of their hatred for the hairstyle...but I wasn't about to change it!

Lynn's Comments: When I was a little kid, I could never warm up to grown-ups who talked in baby-talk. I thought they were, well...insulting!

Lynn's Comments: I usually do my research before I go to work, but I didn’t this time. After I drew up this Sunday page, I went and looked at some “steamy” magazines. None of the women in the sensuous photos were smiling. It made me wonder how much joy was in this business—for them

Lynn's Comments: My brother did this. Watching our mom making root beer in the family washing machine (she washed it out first), he became fascinated by the way she filled the bottles. Rather than use the spigot at the bottom of the washer, she used a siphon. She also used one to empty our kiddy pool in the back yard. I remember our dad mopping the bathroom floor after one of Alan’s siphon experiments and watching to see if the linoleum tiles were lifting. Funny memories…from a kid’s point of view.

Lynn's Comments: CKAT really was our local country radio station and I got a call from the station manager to thank me for the nod. I was told they would play any country song I could think of. I asked for, “You Done Stomped on My Heart.” Yes, that classic and classy tune came from none other than the wonderful John Denver. Another reason he was one of my faves.

Lynn's Comments: Go to YouTube and search for “I’m Five” by Danny Kaye. When I turned five, even though I was a girl, that was my song! Don’t underestimate the memory of a five-year-old. This one has lasted for over 70 years!
