Lynn's Comments: Whenever I added a new character to the strip, it added to the complexity of the story. Mrs. Grunion promised to be a lot of fun to work with, but she would have cut into the other characters’ roles. Since I only had one statement a day in which to tell a story, I had to gloss over some potentially great characters. After I retired and we were doing an assessment, my archivist, Stephanie, told me that during my career in syndication, I had created over 90 characters! Wow. This was something I never knew.

Lynn's Comments: A fun story: One year, my husband and I flew out to Santa Rosa, California to visit Charles and Jeannie Schulz. "Sparky" was proud of his home and he asked us to come and walk about his property with him. I just had flats to wear, so he said I could borrow a pair of his sneakers. To make them fit, he stuffed the toes with Kleenex and off we went. There was a thick wooded area, a pond and a scenic ridge to walk along and we were gone for over an hour. When we got back to the house, I said to my hero, the creator of Peanuts, “Guess what, Sparky. I've walked a mile in your shoes!”

Lynn's Comments: I think this is one of my all time favourite Sunday pages. My son never did this…but it’s something he would have done!

Lynn's Comments: This actually happened. I was driving a friend back to his hotel and we got into an accident. When the police arrived, I didn't think they would believe our version of the story. I'm a cartoonist and my friend was a comedian!

Lynn's Comments: Farley was so much fun to draw. I must have said this before…and here I am saying it again. If I had a favourite cartoon character, Farley was it.

Lynn's Comments: I have a chum who’s a lawyer. She likes to say that people too often get advice from the law firm of "Family & Friends".

Lynn's Comments: I ended this story far too soon. I knew the answer to Annie's question and it was: "Because it’s not over." If an affair has ended the chance that another will begin is all too possible, and in my own experience, probable. When a partner is dissatisfied for whatever reason, is able to lie successfully and get away with it, then the excitement of another conquest often becomes too tempting to resist.

Lynn's Comments: This was good advice. We never took it.

Lynn's Comments: I wasn't allowed to show "yellow snow," but the suggestion was OK.

Lynn's Comments: Our Farley, the real one, was hard to handle. We took him to dog training classes and worked hard to make the lessons stick…but the only things that stuck to Farley were burrs and briars from the ravine behind our house. He considered himself a free spirit, and there were times I’d have given him away—for free.

Lynn's Comments: I got into reader hot-water for using the word “stoopid”. The point being that I had spelled the word incorrectly. If I was going to use it at all, it should be correctly spelled. I explained that I had spelled it the way it sounds when spoken by an enraged kid. Interestingly, they said nothing about the inappropriate use of the word “dumb.” How stoopid!

Lynn's Comments: This strip allows me to comment on the sad decline of the beloved "corner store." These wonderful family run shops were part of the community–a place to go for small items and a conversation when there was time. I regularly walk around my neighbourhood and I know where every corner store used to be. The last one has just reopened as a specialty coffee shop. Times have changed.

I know I will get comments, so let’s add another family truth to this: Elizabeth has knee and elbow pads and has been told to use them. It’s just too much trouble to do so, however, and now she is learning a good lesson about safety and protection. And the ice cream is not her favourite flavour.
