Lynn's Comments: I once watched the end of a hockey game with Charles Schulz. We were in his den and he was in a bit of a grumpy mood. When the final shot was made, fans leaped from their seats screaming, "We're number one! We're number one!" He looked at me with a straight face and said, "That's ridiculous. They didn't do anything."

Lynn's Comments: Quotes like, "face value" were essential to my writing. They gave me an automatic punch line. Even today, I can't hear a cliché without wanting to work it into a strip.

Lynn's Comments: The river rising "foreshadows" the serious events yet to come.

Lynn's Comments: This was an opportunity to talk about Canada...without making it seem like a documentary. I have driven and flown across this country several times and there is not one province that I don’t find to be absolutely wonderful!

Lynn's Comments: In reality, my in-laws lived within walking distance from our home in Ontario. We had all moved from Northern Manitoba to Northern Ontario, so it seemed like a good idea, in the strip, to keep them in the prairies. This way, I could create story lines about visiting them and the cousins there.

Lynn's Comments: When driving through the prairies, make sure you use the bathroom when you gas up. There will be no “safe squatting spots” along the highways!

Lynn's Comments: This punch line comes from my mother. These are her words exactly as we cleaned up the garbage from yet another lovely picnic spot.

Lynn's Comments: I once invited a little friend for dinner—without first asking my mom. Mom was a generous person so I couldn’t understand why she was angry with me. I had no idea that we couldn’t afford to share the 4 pork chops she’d planned to cook, so she made was a “stew” out of them. I never did that again.

Lynn's Comments: My brother did this. Watching our mom making root beer in the family washing machine (she washed it out first), he became fascinated by the way she filled the bottles. Rather than use the spigot at the bottom of the washer, she used a siphon. She also used one to empty our kiddy pool in the back yard. I remember our dad mopping the bathroom floor after one of Alan’s siphon experiments and watching to see if the linoleum tiles were lifting. Funny memories…from a kid’s point of view.

Lynn's Comments: CKAT really was our local country radio station and I got a call from the station manager to thank me for the nod. I was told they would play any country song I could think of. I asked for, “You Done Stomped on My Heart.” Yes, that classic and classy tune came from none other than the wonderful John Denver. Another reason he was one of my faves.

Lynn's Comments: Go to YouTube and search for “I’m Five” by Danny Kaye. When I turned five, even though I was a girl, that was my song! Don’t underestimate the memory of a five-year-old. This one has lasted for over 70 years!

Lynn's Comments: This situation was based on a true story. The details were different but the outcome was the same. My son was working for a television station. He had a camera and had been asked to take some attractive shots around the community to go behind the evening weather report.
