teddy: Browse The Strips

Lynn's Comments: This is another story from the heart. My son had bunk beds in his room and my daughter just had a single bed. It was much easier for him to host a friend for the night than it was for her. When I let Aaron have a boys only all-nighter, it seemed as if Katie was being left out of everything. Sometimes, it’s hard to make things even, especially when a kid wants equality NOW!

Lynn's Comments: After he graduated from high school, Aaron moved to Vancouver. With plans to study broadcasting, he couldn't wait to go. He left home with confidence and an attitude that said, "Goodbye, no horse town!" A few weeks after he’d settled in to his apartment he was sharing with a friend, I got a phone call from my liberated son; "Hey Mom…everything’s fine, I just need you to send me something. It’s um…well…uh…could you please send me my, um, …teddy?"

Lynn's Comments: These drawings were done with all of the sounds, sights, rides and disappointment I could remember. The only thing I ever won at an arcade was a big box of chocolates. Crazy with excitement, my friend Marian and I opened them up on the bus on the way home. Inside we found the dusty, grey, broken remains of what must have been the oldest chocolates in the world. Oh well, we did get a story out of it, which in the end, is better than a first prize after all!

Lynn's Comments: I got into some trouble with this idea. Too many kids decided to make superteddys. I liked the storyline, but the readers did not! Super Teddy had a very short-lived run (or flight!)

Lynn's Comments: I was expected to do a comic strip that would expose the realities of family life. "Tell it like it is" from a woman's point of view. Sometimes the truth hurts.

Lynn's Comments: "Because elephants have flat feet" was our standard answer when questions became too numerous and too silly. Eventually the kids asked about elephants and why DID they have flat feet? This meant researching elephants...and finding a new quip!

Lynn's Comments: My husband was good with kids—as were his staff. One day a mom wanted to be in the operatory with her son because she was sure he'd be too afraid of the dentist to be there alone. Everyone told her the kid would be fine, but she insisted. They let her stay. Everything went well until my husband was about to do the first injection, and the mom, in a loud sing-song voice said, "Here comes the NEEDLE!!" Well, the kid jumped out of the chair and headed for the hills. After that, parents were not allowed in the operatory!
