Lynn's Comments: One of the children's books I loved best was about a family of rabbits who painted the woods with all the colours of the rainbow. In spring they painted the buds bright green, in the fall they painted the leaves different colours, and in winter, they painted the shadows on the snow. Even now, whenever I see long turquoise-grey shadows stretching across a snowy lane, I remember the illustrations in that book.

Lynn's Comments: I called this imaginary baby "April" because she was all fiction and born on April 1st! Many folks wrote to tell me they had named their baby girls April because they were born April first!

Lynn's Comments: People were not happy about Michael calling the baby "Ape." I thought it would be harmless. Few people were upset by "Lizardbreath," but the opposition to "Ape" was so strong that I dropped the nickname very quickly.

Lynn's Comments: April's birth connected me to a whole new group of readers—new moms who wanted to tell me what was going on in their homes. This happened to me and to many others!

Lynn's Comments: I don’t think I have ever been as exhausted as when I was up all night with my babies. My husband often said he'd take on half the nighttime routine, but when he had to go to work in the morning and I was nursing, it just made more sense for me to handle it all.
