Lynn's Comments: My husband and I actually took a ballroom dancing class. He was not enthusiastic, but we attended so many functions where a dance came after the dinner that we felt left out if we didn't join in. After a few lessons, we got pretty good at a few steps and it made a wonderful difference when opportunities to dance came along. What a graceful and elegant thing to be able to do! Nowadays, people just gyrate around to something like wailing and thumping. Whatever happened to the art of ballroom dancing?

Lynn's Comments: My husband really was happiest when he was in his workshop. No matter what was going on around him, his hobbies and his various projects kept him focused and content. If you wanted to spend time with him, the workshop was the place to be. Katie learned this at a very young age, which is why she can now fix or make just about anything!

Lynn's Comments: Farley didn't much care if there were squirrels in the yard--he reacted to food and the great outdoors. Any opportunity to disappear into the ravine behind our house, saw him gone. He would eventually be found wet, dirty and blissfully happy--no matter how hard we scolded him. Our next dog, Willy, was a squirrel chaser. If he saw one out the window, he had to be let out before he busted something. Wildly, madly, barking and running as fast as his short legs would take him Willy would chase a squirrel until it was too far up a tree to see any more. He never caught one, of course, and the squirrels loved the comedy of it all.

Lynn's Comments: Now, it's my turn. Every five years, a few good organizers make sure our high school graduating class gets together. Each time now, the "in memoriam" list grows longer. Hard to believe we are saying goodbye to each other. When we're together, we all still feel like kids!

Lynn's Comments: This punch line was fun to draw up. You have to get the right expression. Elly has to be looking dumped on, but not angry. Not yet. The anger comes afterwards...when the slight has sunk in.

Lynn's Comments: This is the story of my life. As a non-sleeper, I am often reading or doing my mail in the middle of the night. Oddly enough, when I have an early morning deadline, I manage to sleep so soundly that I am comatose when the alarm goes off. Strange stuff!

Lynn's Comments: While making a big cuddly fuss over the dog one day, I noticed a wistful glance from my husband. Whether he was cringing at the "dog-ma" of mother and dog or a bit jealous, I didn't know. The scene made for a good Sunday page!

Lynn's Comments: A mother with an entire day to herself…this, I thought would be the ultimate gift. Perhaps when this was printed, others thought the same. Funny how something precious often comes for free.

Lynn's Comments: Why is it that men don't get teased about their weight as much as women do? …Or do they?

Sunday July 30, 2017

Lynn's Comments: I had a lot of fun making up funny lyrics to these imaginary tunes…but readers focused on their objection to the word "crud". Today, this word would be conservative. How times have changed.

Lynn's Comments: This is from my childhood. I used to lean on my mom when she was cooking and annoy my dad when he was reading the paper, and at the time, I didn't know why. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I realized I was looking for affection. It’s not always easy or convenient to stop what you're doing and hug your kids, but when I was a young mom, I tried.

Lynn's Comments: Living in small towns meant that we got to know the medical folks pretty well. Meeting a doctor at a party, who had just given me a physical check-up, was a challenge at first. Then, like everyone else…I just got used to it!

Lynn's Comments: It did rain. I was wearing a light blue coat and the red colouring dripped down onto my collar and shoulders. I didn't want to spoil our walk, so I didn't run home until the colour ruined my coat.

Lynn's Comments: When I did the Aunt Fiona series, I received a number of letters from readers who asked me how I knew one of their relatives so intimately. You can make stuff up, but the truth is, you don't have to!
