lamp: Browse The Strips

Lynn's Comments: I've just been talking to a friend about guilt. Seems it hangs on long after the deed has been atoned for and forgotten by everyone else. I will remember a stupid thing I said at a party or something I did during an interview, and I'll clench my teeth--willing the memory to fade. It never goes away. Maybe this is a good thing. Maybe it keeps me from doing other stupid things--I wish.

Lynn's Comments: I was so happy while drawing this. A good gag gave me great expressions to work with as I built up to the punch line. Not only did I enjoy the process here, but I was getting back at my mother and all the teachers who told me to "get down to business and hit the books." This strip was a cleansing experience.

Lynn's Comments: Itinerary for the trip was carefully planned. Rod’s father, Tom Johnston, knew the area and had the planned location of the canoe party marked on a big aerial map. Their trip was to end at Yathyked Lake, where Rod could ease the plane into a bay and pick them up. It was going to be a long flight…much longer than expected. (To be continued…)

Lynn's Comments: My friend Ghislaine has three children--all married with children of their own. They had given Ghi eight grandsons, and baby number nine was due. Everyone wondered of this would be the long awaited girl, but when number nine boy arrived, they all breathed a sigh of relief. What would they have done if a little girl had come along? All the stuff they had was for boys! Now, they look forward to all the future girlfriends they will welcome into their homes.

Lynn's Comments: I went to visit Mike Peters (Mother Goose and Grimm) in Florida. He had a "NordicTrack" in his rec room and it was covered with coats and other clothing. I asked him if he ever used it and he said, "Of course!" and he pointed, theatrically to the elaborate clothes rack it had become. That was the inspiration for this strip.

Lynn's Comments: It was fun to see these dailies again. For the past week, I have been helping a friend move, and soon I will be moving to a new place of my own. I have been going through my friends' keepsakes, collections and personal things, as well as my own. It's important to go through the items we have collected and treasured throughout our lives. It gives us the opportunity to revisit some wonderful moments in our history. It also gives us the opportunity to chuck out a load of #*%$##@* junk!!!

Lynn's Comments: This is another true situation. There were times when I was so engrossed in writing or drawing the strip that I was oblivious to everything else around me. My kids could talk to me, ask for things, say stuff that didn't make sense, and I'd simply nod and smile. An entire day could go by and I'd forget to eat or even get up and walk around. It was like being in a sound sleep. There were times when people would have to distract me from my work, look me in the eye, make sure I was absolutely focused on them, and then say what they wanted me to hear!

Lynn's Comments: Some problems might have been seeping into my own marriage at the time, but we managed to keep things going because the kids were young, we both had a lot to do, and we both had a great sense of humour.

Lynn's Comments: Another true story. The fact that this happened to me more than once suggests a rather startling lack of intuition. A night-light was installed around the same time as the offending male trained himself to kindly put down the seat.

Lynn's Comments: I used to ask the kids to help take the tree down. I thought it was a nice way to spend time together. Their help lasted for a few minutes, of course, and after awhile, I did it all myself. Christmas is a wonderful time of year, thanks to all the moms who make it happen!

Lynn's Comments: This strip began with the Garfield pin. We had gone to visit Jim Davis (creator of Garfield) and his family, and had returned with some treasures–one of which was a tiny Garfield pin. I can't remember if I ever told Jim that the pin had been lost and found, and that a Sunday page had been the result. Thanks, Jim!

Lynn's Comments: This really happened. So many times, the strip was a documentation of the things that happened, almost word for word, in our home.

Sunday January 7, 2018

Lynn's Comments: I was going to write something about reading being far too important to allow TV and other devices to rob us of this essential skill. But I think I'll just let the strip speak for itself.

Sunday January 21, 2018

Lynn's Comments: One year, the snow in Lynn Lake, Manitoba was perfect for snow forts. The temperature was above -15C, a rare phenomenon in this northern town. My husband took a shovel and followed Aaron, who must have been about 6, out to where there was a snow bank piled up by the grader. He dug and dug, and was so excited about his snow fort that Aaron got cold watching him and came home. He continued to dig until he realized he was alone. Then he continued to dig. The fort had become his! It must have been funny to see a grown man out there happy as a clam, full of fantasy, just being a kid in the snow.

Lynn's Comments: Anyone who owns a large, hairy dog will see themselves in this Sunday page. The first folks to come up with the idea of a pet grooming business, really knew what they were doing!

Wednesday April 18, 2018

Lynn's Comments: Somebody (might have been me) suggested we shake up the bottles of pop, drink them and see who could burp the loudest. The guys thought this was a good idea, so they and I got the contest underway. Carolyn and the rest of the girls didn't want to get involved, but they didn't want to tell on us either–in case it was a cool scene.
