Martha: Browse The Strips

Lynn's Comments: A drawing like this required some reference material. When I couldn't take the photos I needed, I had loads of magazines to look through. I'm quite jealous of the artists now who can just go to YouTube and Google!

Lynn's Comments: When I was about 18, I went with a couple of girl friends to English Bay. Adelheid, who was a stunning dark beauty, ran into the water in an opaque, white bathing suit. But, when she walked back to us, we could see everything. Wet, her white suit had become transparent. She was horrified and spent the rest of the time rolled in a towel. Interestingly, I don't see too many plain white bathing suits!

Lynn's Comments: When I was about 8. I snuck out late at night to meet up with a pal in the lane behind our house. My friend Joanne suggested we go to her house. Her folks were away and just her sister was home–with her boyfriend. When we got there, the sister and boyfriend were on the couch busily "making out," so we decided to crawl behind the couch and scare them. Just as we got into position, Joanne stifled a laugh which alerted the romantic pair and they sprang into action. In seconds, they shoved the couch hard against the wall, pinning us both like roaches. We had nowhere to go. The threats of violence were serious. We fought hard, kicked our way to the end and squeezed out of the vice just as Joanne’s parents arrived home. Everything came to a halt. We had been saved. The amorous couple had not been discovered by the authorities and we still had all our limbs and hair. It was a close call and something I wanted to bring to the strip. Great memories!

Lynn's Comments: There never was a "Martha" in my son's life even though readers were sure there was. I gave this character the name "Martha" for a friend whose life was in shambles at the time. It was a way of giving her a gift and she enjoyed it very much.

Lynn's Comments: My boyfriend had all kinds of excuses for not writing to me that summer. He even said he'd write something appropriate and give me a letter then and there. But he never wrote me a letter. Suddenly, the crush was gone and when I looked at him, I couldn’t see what it was that had made me so crazy about him in the first place.
