Lynn's Comments: Readers criticized April’s “kidspeak” and told me to make her use proper English. I thought it would detract from a child’s charming way of learning the language. As long as my editors were OK with the content of the strip, I left it alone. One can suffer from too much advice!

Lynn's Comments: This is how I learned to ride a two-wheeled bike. I was 12 before I was allowed to have one. My mother kept saying I wasn’t old enough to have a bike, even though my friends were all pedaling their way to school. If she had only told me that we couldn’t afford one; if she’d been honest with me, I might have understood. To admit that we weren’t able to afford a secondhand bike was such an embarrassment for her that it was many, many years before she told me the truth.

Lynn's Comments: My friend Cecily is a talented doll maker. When she wrote, illustrated and published a children’s book, I showcased it in the strip. I have known Cecily since we worked shoulder-to-shoulder together in an animation studio in Vancouver. We were both in our 20s and newly married. With much in common, we became great friends. Time and serendipity separated us and then brought us back together again 30 years later when I put her name in the paper. Her cousin saw the strip and connected us again. Within days, we arranged to meet and did so in a tearful, happy reunion at the Seattle airport. Cecily was working on this book at the time. We are still in touch and still good friends.

Lynn's Comments: Someone recently told me that the way to easily clip your dog’s toenails is to put peanut butter on your forehead, and while he’s licking it off, you can cut his nails. Has anyone out there tried this??

Lynn's Comments: As a city kid, I had never experienced life on a farm. I never knew how much work there was to do or how much you had to know. It was a real education!
