Lynn's Comments: I sat with a friend today; someone I've known since kindergarten. I asked Laurel what her first job was and she said, "washing hair in a salon. My mom got me the job." Mine was in my dad's store. At the time, we didn't think much of the work our parents arranged for us, but in reality, these jobs were the gateways to our futures.

Lynn's Comments: I once offered local kids some money to clean up the road between my house and my mom-in-law's. It was a country road, so there was no way to cheat! The funny thing was that once they got going, they went from resenting the uncool side of cleaning a rural road, to being fanatical about it. They went down the road, far beyond our property--just because there was so much to pick up. I was so impressed!--And they say kids these days don't know how to do a job well!

Lynn's Comments: In my elementary school, baseball was a big deal. When players were being selected for the teams, I was last to be picked.

Lynn's Comments: There were no dogs out there to spar with, just a few trees and the schoolyard fence. I was on my own.

Lynn's Comments: What I stomped on was wasps' nests! Ground wasps were plentiful, and when I found one, I'd place a rock over the hole, twirl around on it and run before the returning wasps could see what had happened. It was a game of chicken, and much more exciting than the game I was supposed to be playing!

Lynn's Comments: Even the scenario here with the baseball glove really happened. I will clearly remember this day forever--no matter how much it's embellished!

Lynn's Comments: This was another of my son's off-hand remarks. If he knew how many of his comments became punch lines for the strip, I think he'd have asked for a byline!

Lynn's Comments: My mother did make my daughter a lovely smocked dress to wear at my brother and his wife's wedding. I kept this sweet memento until my granddaughter was big enough to wear it, and when she put it on, it looked old-fashioned and unattractive. I gave this lovely handmade dress to the Salvation Army in the hope that someone out there would appreciate all the work that went into it. I didn't feel guilty. Very fortunately, that's what my mom would have done, too.

Lynn's Comments: One of my husband's favourite lines was, "It's best to be honest. And, once you've faked honesty, you've got it made!"

Lynn's Comments: This happened--but it was my dad who was caught smoking on the porch. He was dying of lung cancer at the time.

Lynn's Comments: I think there's a play out there somewhere called, "I Love You, You're Perfect. Now Change." Does anyone know anything about this? Is it still running somewhere? I thought it was the best title, but never got to see the play!

Lynn's Comments: Having Connie, Lawrence, and their new family move back into the Pattersons' neighbourhood gave me much more to write about. Elly and Connie were a good mix of characters, and Lawrence was a wonderful sidekick for Mike. I had written them out of the strip without realizing how much they added to it!

Lynn's Comments: Throughout my life, I have had wonderful friends--both men and women, who were there when I needed them. Likewise, I have always been there for them, too. Good friends are the bandages, the bed rest, and the chicken soup of life!
