suitcase: Browse The Strips

Lynn's Comments: I often left things in hotel closets and I usually got them back. The only thing I knew would disappear was my little magnifying make-up mirror, which I suction-cupped to the window for maximum light. These are readily available at most pharmacies--but housekeepers, it seems, really like to take them home!

Lynn's Comments: I went away on business several times a year. The most exhausting trips were the book tours. Authors, at the time, were routinely sent from city to city to do as much publicity as possible. At first it's exciting and rewarding--and dangerously ego boosting as well. By the end of the tour I was tired of talking, tired of signing, and just tired of ME! Still, I was a ham--eager to please, and by the time the next book was due, I would be looking forward to the next tour.

Lynn's Comments: Aaron once actually climbed into a suitcase and asked my mom to take him to Vancouver with her. It was funny, and became a kind of game. Old suitcases, destined for the "nuisance grounds," were perfect to play with. He and his friends would slug each other around in a suitcase until the handles broke. This was before the advent of wheels--an excellent addition to unwieldy bags. Another example of obvious inventions--Why didn't I think of that?!

Lynn's Comments: I went to the Lynn Lake airport to see Rod off on his arctic adventure. It was August; not too cold where we were living, but the summer ends in July up north, so the window of good weather was closing fast. He had to get to a small bay on the northwest coast of Yathkyed Lake as quickly as possible.

Lynn's Comments: I have offered to help with projects only to discover that I was the only one who was really working on them! The adage, "Be careful what you offer to do," should be added to "Be careful what you wish for." Both can have serious consequences.

Lynn's Comments: When this strip ran, people all over the continent made paper hugs to send to loved ones all over the world. They sent me letters and photographs of the hugs they made and of the people who received them. This was a strip I didn't think was anything special. I never knew when a simple drawing I did might be seriously taken to heart.

Lynn's Comments: Nobody tells you about this side of childbirth. Sitting down becomes a challenge…as do other things too personal to describe!

Lynn's Comments: Everyone has that well- meaning relative who wants to help but is no help at all. They always show up at births, deaths and other times where this kind of help is the last thing you need.

Lynn's Comments: My parents lived on the other side of the country from my brother and me. When their health began to deteriorate, we both tried to see them as often as possible but it was hard to make time for a 5-hour flight. We felt helpless and guilty for not being there for them, but we did have some wonderful caregivers for whom we will be forever grateful.

Lynn's Comments: Looking at these last 2 days worth of strips, I see that I've used the word "ready" 7 times. If I was checking the work of a student, I'd point this out right away as an error in the script!
