Brian: Browse The Strips

Lynn's Comments: When I went to Brownie Camp in the 50s, the beds were old and the springs were sagging. The bigger kids always seemed to get the top bunks, and I remember being terrified as I lay on my lower bunk looking up at the perilously sagging shape in the bunk above mine.

Lynn's Comments: During our offsprings’ retreat to Camp Tillicum, parents were invited to a family day so we could see what was going on. The dining hall was of great interest to me. I remember thinking how much fun it would be to sit with 50 other kids and eat wieners and beans.

Lynn's Comments: I had a chance to meet the two cooks who provided the meals, and it didn't take long to figure out why, at the end of the day, they were more exhausted than the kids were.

Lynn's Comments: My son, Aaron, told me that porcupines had made a hole in the girls’ shower hut. The rest of this story is all "What if?"

Lynn's Comments: I was good at this…both range and direction. When I was in school, the boys weren't the only ones getting detentions for causing trouble!

Lynn's Comments: Drawings like the one in panel 3 made my day. If I could come up with an idea that required expressions like these, I was in heaven.

Wednesday April 11, 2018

Lynn's Comments: I couldn't wait to be 13 for this very reason. I could add the word "teen" to my age. I could also babysit and make some cash. This was the beginning of independence.

Lynn's Comments: This strip ran long before the "trance-dance" mindless, auto-tuned, sampled, lyric-poor crud you hear in public places today. Oh. Right. I’ve done this rant before. So, I’ll just say this: where is the good stuff? Give me a list of good tunes played by a good band that writes good lyrics and can really sing! Where are the "Eagles" and the "Beach Boys" of 2019? Gotta be out there. Gimme a list!

Lynn's Comments: This scenario never changes. Here we are in 2019, with all of the new synthetics and brand name winter duds and east coast kids still hit the snow in summer clothing. Here on the warm wet coast, however, one can see the biggest parkas waiting in line for the bus. Go figure!

Wednesday March 13, 2019

Lynn's Comments: This was done at a time when we were reading about and seeing terrible riots on TV. Nothing changes. As recently as last week, I was watching young people on the news preparing to protest and thinking how lucky we are to be living in Canada.

Lynn's Comments: My summer job was always in my parents' jewellery store. My main duty was to dust and wipe fingerprints off the glass counters. I was quite envious of a friend of mine who got a job serving ice cream at one of the malls. She had a cute uniform and was always talking to kids our age. It was a very busy, social place. Later, when I told her how much I wished I'd had her job, she said that after standing all day digging hard ice cream out of the freezer, her back ached, her feet hurt and her arms had never ached so badly in her life! …The grass is always greener on the other side!

Lynn's Comments: Any time I've done a cartoon workshop, I tell my students to not try to be perfect; that there’s no such thing as perfect. But, if you do the best you can possibly do, the results are always very, very good. No matter what my job has been, that advice has always worked for me!

Lynn's Comments: When this strip first ran, the girls asks the boys if they had change for a dollar because they needed to use a payphone. We updated the dialog not only to remove the payphone reference, but we also thought the girls should confront the boys about their behaviour!
