Lynn's Comments: I wasn't planning to give in to the readers who were begging me to remove Mike's beard...but Mike's opportunity to do some professional work begged the question, "Would an employer be more likely to hire him with or without the beard?"

Lynn's Comments: These kinds of calls did happen. In the small town where we lived in Northern Manitoba, everyone knew where we lived and what our home phone number was. It was a few minute walk to the dental clinic, so folks expected my husband to be able to see them at any time—no matter how inconvenient it was. It wasn’t until the "new dentist" aura wore off that he had the nerve to say, "Take two aspirin and all me in the morning!"

Lynn's Comments: My dad was a watchmaker. One of our favourite stories was "The Noisy Clock Shop" by Jean Horton Berg. I recently found it again in a second hand shop— an original "Wonder Book!" Mr. Winky was the main character. I got the title of the book wrong here, but I sure remembered the story!

Lynn's Comments: When I was working at the medical school, one of the artists had been doing a detailed illustration of a head with a cutaway section that exposed the brain, neck and oral cavity. I crawled into his studio, and when he wasn’t looking, put my head (like April is doing here) on his drafting table. I had never before heard a man scream like that!
