Lynn's Comments: My mother was a real stoic. She went through some incredible surgeries and long recoveries, but I never heard her complain. She considered it all an adventure. She was an amazing woman.

Lynn's Comments: This was true. Both my brother and I were living in Ontario, and, in order to see our parents through this difficult time, we had to take turns flying out to Vancouver. This was difficult for everyone. We had to take time off work or take work with us. Our parents didn’t want to be a “burden.”

Lynn's Comments: In reality, my mom had bowel cancer. Her surgery was extensive, and it left her with a body that didn’t work the way it used to. This, too, became an adventure as she learned how to live with a colostomy and a new diet.
