Lynn's Comments: When the pregnancy story was coming to an end, friends of mine decided to throw a surprise baby shower for my "imaginary baby." I was spirited away from the house long enough for them to cover the front lawn with flamingos and a big stork carrying a baby in a bundle. When I went inside, there was a party all set up with gag gifts, munchies and an open bar. It was a great success. The funny thing is…I never had a baby shower for either of my REAL kids!!

Lynn's Comments: I omitted the top of the first 3 panels here just to see if it would make a nice change to the look of the strip. I think it did. It was around this time that I started to white out borders and let parts of the illustration extend outside the line. I’ve never been one to keep things the same; another reason why the characters "grew up."

Lynn's Comments: Situations like this really date the strip. Nobody uses an encyclopedia any more.
In fact, I still spell the word the way I learned to spell it in the 50s—encyclopaedia.

Lynn's Comments: Somebody once said that it wasn’t possible for men and women to be good friends without any "love complications" – just friends. Well, I "deg to biffer." I had some wonderful male friends in grade school, art school, workmates and beyond. The thing is to make sure your eventual life partner is also a very good friend!

Lynn's Comments: I was royally criticized for showing Gordon having a "hormone attack." It was apparently too suggestive to be seen on the comics page.

Lynn's Comments: Things sure have changed since we all had land lines. I'm glad my kids were grown and on their own before the conundrum of "who gets a cell phone" was a bone of contention!

Lynn's Comments: Elly in the last panel was fun to draw. I wanted to show exactly what it feels like to be in the 9th month of pregnancy and I think this did the trick!

Lynn's Comments: I didn't have swollen feet when I was pregnant, but many of my friends did. I got letters from readers who used these strips to explain how they were feeling to folks who didn't understand.

Lynn's Comments: There never was a "Martha" in my son's life even though readers were sure there was. I gave this character the name "Martha" for a friend whose life was in shambles at the time. It was a way of giving her a gift and she enjoyed it very much.

Lynn's Comments: My mother was understanding enough to know that I wanted to be dropped off away from the mall or the theatre so my friends would think I'd come by bus or had walked to town. Now, that's a cool mom.
