Michael is Elly and John's first child. He was kindergarten age in 1979, and as a teenager he worked at a grocery store.

He always enjoyed writing and went to university in London, Ontario to study journalism. He married his childhood sweetheart Deanna Sobinski with whom he had two children. He became a published author with two books to his credit.
