Watching our mom making root beer in the family washing machine (she washed it out first), he became fascinated by the way she filled the bottles. Rather than use the spigot at the bottom of the washer, she used a siphon. She also used one to empty our kiddy pool in the back yard. I remember our dad mopping the bathroom floor after one of Alan\u2019s siphon experiments and watching to see if the linoleum tiles were lifting.
