The Making of a Comic Strip
Making Of Photograph

The newspaper printing process does not allow for the printing of multiple shades of grey. Look closely at any black and white photograph in your newspaper. It's a grid of large and small dots of strictly black ink.

Viewed from a distance, our eyes fill in the blanks and give us the grey tones we expect to see. We convert the continuous grey tones we see on screen to this dotted half-tone before we submit the comic art to the syndicate.
