Posted: October 1, 2007 | News Bites Home
The Office of Civil Rights at the US Department of State has asked Stephanie H, inspiration for the “For Better or For Worse” character Shannon Lake and Lynn Johnston’s niece, to be the keynote speaker for the 2007 Disability Awareness Month Celebration to be held on October 4, 2007 at the US Department of State in Washington DC. This celebration will also be broadcast abroad to all US embassies.
The purpose of this event is to increase the awareness of disability related issues at their agency, to improve the inclusion of persons with disabilities at the US Department of State, and to create a dialogue between persons with disabilities and those who currently do not have one.
The US Department of State in Washington hopes this year's theme “The Art of Breaking Barriers”, as well as having a guest related to the world of pop culture and comics, Stephanie Haskins, will encourage people who normally do not pay attention to issues involving individuals with disabilities to come to the event.
Stephanie will be heading to Washington DC on October 3rd. Good luck Steph!!!
