Did everyone here drink beer from a can right in front of their parents while still toddlers? Here's a medical doctor who agrees that, no matter how many people here think it's cute, it definitely isn't: http://life.familyeducation.com/toddler/safety/42326.html . Toddlers can get drunk off a couple sips.

A forum for a comic strip that deals with real life is not engineered for only "lightness" as it were. As for the toddler drinking beer, no it is not exactly funny, but not exactly the end of the world either. I am sure this happens in every day life and is quite accidental. I notice that Elly does not even mention, or seem to notice, the beer guzzling toddler in her admonishment to John, she is concerned only that he is resting while she is, presumably, hard at work as always.

I would be more concerned about Alcohol POISINING, which I believe can happen in children after consuming a very small amount. An old boy friend of mine was a nurse in a detox center and I heard story after story about people telling him that they recall the exact moment they took a first drink and were alchoholics from age 6, 10 or 13 whatever. People with alcholic parents are especially at risk. To be safe lock up the liquor cabinet, how hard is that?

Now, if FBorFW were really "updated", Elly would still be at home, taking her Writing Course "OnLine". (A very quick AltaVista search for "Creative Writing Class" turned up over half a million matches, spanning every genre from poetry snd fiction to screenwriting, essays, biographies, and reviews!) But I'm really glad to see Elly going the "old fashioned" route and making an adventure of learning --- Not everything needs to be brought into "the present day"!
