I know why the teacher is using a black board, it is because,in Northern Ontario, most schools still have black boards and Lynn lives in Northern Ontario! Schools have limited budgets and replacing black for white boards is not a priority when other resources such as books and craft supplies are needed.

Shame on Stephanie! Criticizing Lynn for what is nothing more than a comic strip is uncalled for. Do people write to authors of published books to complain about the ending? Certainly not as much as people criticize Lynn for what is her own creation and is not poking fun anything in today's daily life of everyone. Her strip is there for our pleasure and I take pleasure in beginning each day by reading her strip. So here are my kudos to Lynn for continuing to entertain those of us who take her work as a blessing, not a curse.

I don't understand why peeple like Stephanie don't like your colum Elly. This was the 1960s when things were differnt and people need to understand its only for fun to make us laugh. Some people need to learn to read your website and understand how hard elly works everyday to make us laugh and cry sometimes too.

How would Elly have "too much education", when she's a high school graduate with a few college terms under her belt?
As she doesn't know what she wants to do, she could volunteer or work in the cafeteria at Michael's school. Then if Liz, Michael, Anne or Christopher is sick, or she is needed at home for some other reason, she can easily take the time off.
Here in my neck of the woods, unemployment is over 11%. Elly would be competing with former legal secretaries, bookkeepers, factory workers and business owners for the very few clerk or service jobs that might be available.

I'm a bit perplexed as to why Jean would assume that Michael being in full-day school would be the trigger for Elly getting a job outside the home--as opposed to Liz being in full-day school later on. (Not that I'm putting down daycare in any way--I'm just wondering about Jean's assumptions.) Also, isn't it a bit rude to hold personal discussions like this in the presence of a patient?

I always find the comments here interesting, particularly those from people who relate to the strip and find it so "true to life". When I read a strip like today's, with such an outdated sentiment, I can't relate to it at all.

I adore your comic strip and have for many, many years and then they took it out of our local paper(the Lexington Herold) and I was crushed. I have raised my children while reading this strip to them EVERY Sunday and then poof! gone. It was like losing a family member. I'm so happy to have found this site on my computer and honored to be able to tell you this.
