I laughed out loud when I read John's commment to Elly about dinner. Many years ago, when I was a stay at home mom with several small children,I strived to have dinner ready and on the table when my husband arrived home from work. At least (or so it seemed at the time) three times a week "I had that for lunch" was the comment I heard. After one stressful (sick baby, whinny toddler and broken washing machine) day, hearing THAT was the last straw! I told my husband before bursting into tears - "If I fixed bees knees and fairy dust pancakes for dinner, YOU would have had it for LUNCH!" Now we laugh about it but it wasn't that funny that day!

I have been reading your strip for as long as I can remember. In your original run of the strip, I was about the same age as Elizabeth, so we kind of grew up together. The funny thing is we both took a similar path in life, so I always found I had a deep connection with her character.
Now that you have "gone back in time", if find I am connecting with Elly, as I am a new mom. I particularly relate to today's strip (09/07)/09), where Elly is feeling the pressure to make all of Elizabeth's food herself. I, too, feel that pressure, but have not bowed to it, as I would rather be spending quality time with my son, than cooking in the kitchen. Besides, the food in the jars is really no different than what I would make him myself... I just had to read the ingredient list on a jar to realize that! It is just a veggie/fruit and water!
Thank you for creating a family that I have felt so close to for so many years. I truly look forward to my "Strip Fix" every morning.
