Monday June 22, 2009

I just bought a bread machine from a garage sale for $5.00 - quite the steal. I anxiously put it to use following the recipe and measurements exactly. As it churned, rose and then baked, I actually had a quiet moment to read the Saturday paper. Much to my surprise, your comic strip was about the mishap on the bread dough and a forgotten ingredient causing Ellie to throw out the dough and events "rose" from there. I read your strip everyday and have followed it for years. You put the smile in my day - thanks for that. Oh my bread - it rose too much and cause a big mess in the machine. Like people, I just have to figure out the best recipe to work with it.

Here's a poem I wrote about your stip! I hope you like it.

My favorite comic is For Better Or for Worse
That's why I'm celebrating it in verse.
My favorit caracter is Ellie
She cleans the house and cleans up dog pee.
John is a hard-working man
He works as hard as a dentist posibly can.
Mike and Liz are sweet little kids
It's clear that Ellie and John love them to bits.
Farley is a big furry bundle of fun
As dogs go, he's number one.
I love the Patterson family, everyone plays their part!
For Better or for Worse really touches my heart!

i just read Farley's Farewell for the first time and it has me in tears. i didn't get to "meet" him when you first wrote about him and so love him as a puppy that i couldn't resist looking "back" to see what became of him. he was an amazing dog. thank you.

I think the whole family went to the dog training, like an outing, but John was the one who ran Farley through the cammands. That would make sense since Elly heard the instructor talk about the importance of praise.

By the way, I could easily be waaaay overreading, but it seems that Elly is taking a chance to be passive agressive and give John a taste of his own belittling and condescension! In the last panel of Friday's strip, she is smiling and patting him on the head, and he looks very disconcerted. I wonder if this will open his eyes a bit to how Elly feels when he treats her rudely?

I love your strip today (June 20). It reminds me of my 2 dogs. They are 4 and 2. Everytime we walk them they react the same as Farley. Thanks for all the laughter and tears through the years.
