STUDENT'S STEW AND DUMPLINGS
(The added peas, together with the dumplings, increase the total protein value of this dish for mere pennies!)
Large can Beef Stew
Three-quarter cup frozen peas
Small cooking onion, minced.
Dumplings:
1 and one half cups all purpose flour
1 tbsp parsley flakes (optional)
2 tsp baking powder
Half tsp salt
3 tbsp shortening
Three-quarter cup milk
Dump stew into saucepan . Stir in frozen peas and minced onion. Bring all to a gentle boil.
Prepare Dumplings: Mix flour, parsley (optional), baking powder and salt in medium bowl. Cut in shortening.using blender, 2 crisscrossed knives, or by 'rubbing' with your thumb and fingertips, until mixture looks like fine crumbs. Stir in milk.
Drop 10 spoonfuls of dough onto stew meat or veggies (don't drop directly into liquid) and cook 10 minutes uncovered. Cover and cook 10 minutes more.

I still try and read the new "old" strips, although I would love to see the story line return to everyone grown up now.
I read Coffee Talk to enjoy the comments. I do not like the receipe club that seems to have taken over column. If people want to swap reciepes, open a special section for it. I am getting very bored with it all.
On the other hand, I am looking forward to buying the final book, as I have saved all of them over the years.

I just bought the latest and final book Just a simple wedding and as usual I couldn't put it down until I had read it all. I have collected all the books since Lynn first started her strip. My family is yours with a few differences but basically you are me. Our 12 year old Labrador is named Farley after the original, my eldest son is Michael, who is a High School Teacher and got married to his high school sweetheart last June. I also have one other son who is graduating this spring. You made me laugh and you made me cry and when I need a pick me up I go to the book shelf and read one of the many FBOFW books. Thank-you once again for all the years and I hope I have as much fun with any future grandchildren as Elly has.

I am so happy the last book is finally out! Since it is the last one I had to order a signed copy. Can't wait until it arrives!

It is difficult to determine how old Liz is supposed to be these days, but at least some of the time, she appears to be less than one year old. If this is the case, Elly should NOT be feeding her honey, because of the risk of infant botulism. See:
