I am so amused at the uproar over Elly cooking meals for John! I have been cooking all my meals on the weekend for about a year now, but that doesn't mean my husband will eat them. It doesn't hurt my feelings one bit, because I know I've done my part to help the family. What's the big deal?
Anyway, if you want an easy, kid-friendly meal, check out this slow cooker recipe that was a regular on the table when I was growing up.
Crock Pot Chicken
4 chicken breasts
1 can cream of chicken soup
½ c. margarine
½ c. flour
1 ½ tsp. salt
Dash pepper
2 c. milk
Cut chicken into small pieces and place in slow cooker. Add soup and mix well. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter; blend in flour, salt and pepper until smooth. Gradually stir in milk. Cook and stir until thickened and smooth. Pour over chicken. Cook on low for 4-8 hours, or until chicken juices run clear. Serve with rice.

Here's a quick and simple main dish:
Rice-A-Roni and Tuna
Prepare a package of Chicken flavor Rice-A-Roni per the package directions. Stir in a can of tuna before you cover and simmer.
I've also made this with Beef flavor.

Today I was the happy yet sad recipient of the final FBorFW collection. As Elizabeth once said, today was a "rainbow day", crying and laughing at the same time.
Thank you so much for a comic strip filled with gentle humor, realistic story lines and a wonderfully deft pencil that brought a whole group of people into my life.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Dear Elly:
It seems to me that a child would prefer to have his or her toast sliced thin enough that he or she doesn't have to worry about dropping it on the floor. They're not refusing the larger slices you prefer to spite you (despite your belief otherwise) but to make your life easier. Remember, they cannot be expected to hold things as steadily as you or I can because their bodies are still developing. Kindly bear that in mind so you can make things easier on yourself and everyone else around you.

Very very poignant strip today. "I know how the single man lives, Ted." John's hand on Ted's shoulder, along with Ted's uncharacteristic look of shock, seems to be saying that Ted is unmasked here. He always puts on a show of being happy and carefree, being "quite okay" with ladies and so forth, but maybe inside he really is insecure, and unhappy.

What, you forgot PINWHEELS?
1. Trim all crusts from 4 slices of "Sandwich Bread".
2. Flatten each slice with a rolling pin.
3. Spread slices with peanut butter. or butter/margarine mixed with a little brown sugar.
4. Cut a banana in quarters, LENGTHWISE.
5. Place a banana quarter on long edge of each of the bread slices and roll, "jelly roll" fashion. Cut each roll into 4 or 5 "wheels".
6. Also good with made cheese spread, and quartered dill pickles!!
