I'm enjoying going back to the beginning and learning more about the characters I know so well.
Lynn, I'm wondering if you are learning more about the characters as well. Just like your readers, are you discovering more about their personalities, thoughts, hopes, and so on?
Thanks for the many years of good reading--I look forward to more to come.

I LOVE this question!! I guess I learned about the characters with time. In the beginning they were "people". They looked similar to our family, the philosophy was the same, perhaps some personality traits were similar and, of course my husband was a dentist so John Patterson's career was believable. But I did not "know" the characters and I made up stories as they entered my head...with no real plan, no real goals in mind. After a few years, their personalities became defined and I was able to "get into" each character much more easily.
Going back to the beginning affords me the luxury of knowing NOW what I didn't know then! I don't think I'll be doing anything towards character development at this stage, however. So, the answer is no. I don't think I'm learning anything new about them. What I'm concentrating on now is story development. What I left unsaid the first time around, I can say now, and perhaps establish the whole story more effectively. That's my goal, anyway!
Thanks for asking.
Lynn
