Poor Grampa Jim...how soon we forget that those who cant speak can hear and feel as we do... it broke my heart to see him up against the wall while everyone around him was having a conversation with out him... he was not even given the courtesy to join in. No reflection on the writer just thanks for the insight to think more clearly the next time I may be pushing an assistance chair.

I have just now discovered this website and am very delighted to find things about my most favorite comic strip. I got hook in the USA in 1982 and have been a true follower ever since. Now my husband and kids are just as much excited over every new book as I am and here we get a new strip every day!
Thank you for many delightful hours.

The Strip is refreashing because it is so real and not a "fantasy" strip. I have enjoyed reading it my entire life and hope to go on for many years to come! Thank you for your years of entertaining us and making us think.

I don't understad why so many people are negative about Anthony.
I'm willing to bet the people on the "I Hate Anthony" boat were upset when L&A broke up earlier.
They have known each other for YEARS- this isn't that "sudden" at all.

What's not to love about Anthony?
He was emotionally unfaithful throughout his first engagement and marriage, he professed his love to his high school sweetheart immediately after she was almost raped, he asked her to wait for him and then never left his wife, after his wife finally left him he didn't even bother to ask Liz out.
Gee, what's not to like? I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing the honest person that's good husband material based on what Lynn has chosen to present in the strip. Just because he's the love interest of a main character, doesn't mean his past actions are beyond reproach.

Please, please, please don't keep Jim in the state he is in. I had to watch my grandfather go through that and it's hard reliving it again with this strip. Iknow you are trying to keep things paused in this time and all, but keeping Jim "living" like that will only cause some people to relive bad memories and eventually you could lose some devoted fans, like me.

Hi Lynn, I just wanted to tell you how much I love this comic strip and how it is so amazing that Liz and I both are so much alike. I can really relate to her. I have been reading this comic strip since I was in 7th grade. Since then Elizabeth and I have shared alot of the same experiences. For example, both of us have had serious boyfriends (that have not ended up well) at the same time. Then we went to college at the same time and even majored in the same thing. We both graduated at the same time and became teachers. I am now also getting married. I am in the mist of wedding planning and feel the same way she does. Ahahah! Liz has been a comfort to me all my life and I thought you should know how much I am thankful for her. If she can get through this wedding okay, then so can I.

Thank GOD we aren't having the "Wedding joke of the year" (albeit a coatoon) shoved down our throats for yet another week. It's about time we got back to Grandpa Jim....MUCH better story line than that farce of Anthony (Mr. Absent From ALL Wedding Plans/Prep)& Liz. Grandpa Jim is the most adored character by far. i would love to see him regain his speech before this all wraps up. He has so much to say!!!

Today's strip (July 22 2008) brought mixed emotions out in me. On one hand, it makes me sad to see Jim unable to converse as he would like, and to see his friends and relations unconsciously talking "over" him instead of "to" him. But, seeing the kind health worker gave me a flicker of happiness to remember all the people who took such good care of my Grandpa in his last years of life.
He died July 12. I miss him.

I wish Grandpa Jim could talk again. It makes a very sad ending to a wonderful life. Plus will Elizabeth adopt Anthony's daughter?

Hooray...Grandpa still has his wits about him! I've been trying to imagine the Dynamics between Therese, Anthony and Francine...could they have worked this way???
"The one thing Anthony had salvaged from the Debacle of his Marriage was his daughter Francine. Quiet and rather serious, the child appeared unscathed by the parental tensions that had dominated the first months of her life. This was partly due to the efforts of the Plump Polish Lady that Anthony had recruited as a "Mother's Helper" after Gord tactfully suggested that the Garage Office made a rather poor Nursery --not to mention that a bleary-eyed Manager didn't exactly project the best Company Image!. Elena Pilipiak not only handled the messy "necessities" with unfailing good humor, she also unwittingly helped to relieve the worst of Therese's Post Partum Depression.
"The widowed sister of one of the Cleaning Women, the tireless Elena Pilipiak was as immune to barbed comments as a brick is to bee stings. Furthermore, convincing herself that Mrs Caine was in the middle stages of some undisclosed terminal illness, she showered the younger woman with kindesses and compliments, knitting her a pair of angora wool slippers, brewing pots of Lemon Verbena tea, or presenting Therese with a piece of French Lace to the shade Baby's eyes, --"So Beautiful, just like Mama's!'
"As a result Francine's first Birthday was marked by a mountain of plush animals and high-end crib toys, all personally chosen by Therese, who by this time showed some interest in pursuing a Certificate Program related to Investment Counselling. Anthony despaired when he learned that Mrs Pilipiak would be joining her son and his wife in Florida, but Therese found a Day Care Facility that accepted Infants aged 18 months or older. Once Therese had thoroughly checked out the facility, and little Francine was officially enrolled, Therese had announced her intentions of leaving.
"DayCare, though expensive, was staffed by competent and rigorously-screened Professionals. Under their tutelage little Francine thrived, soon showing motor and language skills markedly in advance of those considered "average" for any particular stage of development. Fatherhood meanwhile awoke chords in Anthony that had until now remained unsounded: for the first time in his life he was the object of demanding but completely uncritical Love.
"To his amazement he discovered in himself reserves of energy along with an intuitive resourcefulness that he had never before suspected. Finding solutions to each new child-rearing challenge raised his self-assurance. Seeing the world through a toddler's eyes made Life stretch before him like a promising Adventure just waiting to be pursued by. In fact, when colleagues openly pitied him for 'Being saddled with a Kid', Anthony silently wondered what they might possibly have to make their own lives as satisfying. "

Over 2 whole weeks without a rerun strip! I love it! THANK YOU!!!!! I know that this trend cannot continue, so I will enjoy it while it lasts!

So much of what you write mirrors my family that I think you must live in my closet....hahahaha

For all those that are not happy with the Anthony/Liz story line....
They have history, he saved her from evil, he supported her during the trial, Lynn may not of spelled out every emotion each day but the love, caring, and tenderness is obvious.
These are not kids they are over 25.

The strips featuring Grampa Jim are so bittersweet. I'm pleased that that they are not totally depressing, but then they're not candy-coated either. Grampa Jim is fully aware of his condition, but he can have a sense of humor about it too - I don't really get the sense that he is wallowing in self-pity, and I like that about him, and the strip as well.
