« Friday, December 21, 2007 | Main | Letters to Lynn, part 2 »
This week, while the studio is closed, we'll be posting some of Lynn's responses to reader mail. Feel free to keep submitting your own comments; we'll read them when we get back on January 2nd.
From Katje in Albany:
Lynn, perhaps you could clear up something that's been a topic of some heated discussion amongst your readers for several years.
When Dee found she was pregnant with Meredith, she told Michael that she had stopped taking the pill because she was switching to a different pill and was waiting for the first to clear from her body before beginning the next.
As many have noted in online discussions, it is NOT necessary to do this when switching between birth-control pills. Further, many have noted that Deanna, as a pharmacist, ought to have known better. But even if she didn't, she ought to have known that she needed an alternate means of contraception while she was taking a break from her birth-control method.
Candace suggested to Liz that the pregnancy must have been a "planned accident," but this topic has never been pursued.
The usual consensus on this topic (when there is one) is that Dee must either be a terrible pharmacist or an outright liar. I have suggested that perhaps your intent was that this was an honest mistake, and that Deanna got swept away in the excitement of her honeymoon.
Could you settle this once and for all?
Lynn's response:
What happens is...I write a story, send it in and THEN I find out I've made an error. So, I write some goofy "reason" for why something happened and a sharp reader will call me and question me about it. This is one of those instances. You're right - it didn't make sense, but I really like your honeymoon excitement theory - so I'll use that! Thanks for writing,
