I was so happy in college to find the FBORFW website so I could follow my daily comic with out having to pay for the newspaper. I love the new hybrid comics. It gives me a chance to look back on comics I grew up reading.
I always saw myself in Elizabeth. I am about the same age as her, and in the same profession. It was funny to finish college and start teaching at the same time she did.
I even have my husband reading the comic books over and over again. We faught over the newest book, Seniors' Discount, when it came out. I wanted to read it before him.
Thank you for so many wonderful memories!

Thanks for the great cartoon last Sunday- my husband and I got a great laugh out of it! I loved the fact that you showed Deanna dragging Mike off to find him a fetching ladies' outfit (with heels, no less!) to wear to their Halloween party. I must admit that we were a bit disappointed that we did not get to see a strip detailing their party festivities.
That said, I realize that the comic strip is intended as just good-natured fun, but my opinion is that it is a good lesson for any man to experience first-hand, what women have to go through to look good. I did the same thing with my husband once, excapt it was for a New Year's Eve Masquerade Party [heels, stockings, tight skirt, hair up in a bun with earrings, lipstick, eyeliner; the WORKS!] and I can tell you that once he had worn all those things for three and one-half hours (and had both men and women hit on him) he no longer whines about me not dressing up for him often enough; at least he quit asking for it when I started saying the same thing to him! This way, I can dress for him when I want to, which makes a big difference in our lives. It has certainly improved our relationship, mostly because it is more balanced now.
By the way, I think that Deanna is quite lovely, and always enjoy watching her strong way of dealing with all life brings her way.

The past few days showing Mike and Elizabeth is so much like my son and daughter right now- my son is 4 and my daughter is 12 months. I love how much this comic rings true and makes us laugh about life.

When I read that April was going to quit the band, my heart sank.
I have had always had some form of structured music in school... except for my 3nd year in college.
I started off majoring in music but that didn't pan out. I then went to early childhood education, and soon learned that wasn't for me either. I still tried to keep some music classes, but by the time I got to the major of "Undecided", I was told by school officials, 'You can't take any more music classes!' I was devastated. So for the first time since elementary school, I tried to get through a semester without any music whatsoever. And for the first time since elementary school, I had to drop classes or risk failing the term and seriously hurt my GPA from 3.3 to less than a 2.5
I think it's great that April knows she's not going to do this professionally when she's older. But I also believe she really will miss the chance to make music with other people. But, who knows, maybe she'll pick up the guitar again and strum a few chords for herself and her family.

What a fun Hallowe'en photo. Great makeup job, Laura!

Lynn,
As a heterosexual male-to-female crossdresser (since age of 9 and I'm 69 now!) I sincerely appreciate your Oct 28 strip, especially the last segment. Our spouses are indeed appreciated for their patience and understanding.
BTW, caught you on the PBS special on Charlie Brown and Sparky...thought you were most insightful and understanding in your comments. You echo in real life the balanced perspective you have brought to your strip. Many thanks.

I just love FBOFW. Have been reading it since my 3 older children were very young - they are a bit younger than Michael & a between them slightly older & younger than Elizabeth. No 4 (a daughter) is a couple of years older than April , so identify with Elly & John who are around the same age as my husband & me.
My most memorable strip was many years ago on Mothers' Day when Elly waved John & the children off. Her mother called & asked what were they doing & when she said that they had all gone out & left her at home alone her mother said something to the effect of "I thought that they were going to do something wonderful for you" & Elly replied "they did!" .At the time I had 3 very young children & so emphasised completely ! I cut it out & it hung on my fridge for years !
Now we have an "empty nest" with them boomeranging back here from time to time.Elizabeth's life & trials are so familiar !
I look forward so much to my daily dose of FBOFW. Thank you Lynn.
