As a college professor in music, I applaud April's decision to be realistic about her feelings about music as a career. There is a huge difference between being passionate about music and following that passion with a career. I love what I do, but it isn't for everyone.

Dear Lynn,
"For Better or for Worse" has been my favorite "comic" for many years. When my husband and I were transferred from San Antonio, Texas, USA to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, in 1983, I felt we already had friends in Canada, due to the Patterson's AKA the Johnson's. Before our son, Daniel, was born in Ottawa, I discovered your book, David, We're Pregnant! Needless to say, I was thrilled!
I've laughed and cried, right along with your family. I cried more than once when Farley died and just cried again, when I reread the event. I was raised with cats, dogs, bunnies, a rooster and even raised a baby possum, so I really enjoyed and appreciated your family's pets' antics as well as Farley's heroic action to save April.

Laura A, San Antonio TX

Poor April, while I know she'd make a good veterinarian and it is a noble choice, I know deep down she'd rather be a musician. It's just so much more a part of her life. Despite positive musical influences like Grandpa Jim, Uncle Phil and Mr. Bergan, she has let her dad's negativity about music as a career color her viewpoint. She should know from her Uncle Phil that her musical career doesn't have to follow the same path as Becky or as Jeremy's father.
I think that her insensitive sister Liz's mishandling of the harmonica has also hurt her very much. April gave something very meaningful to her sister and Liz barely even remembers she had it, and worse she missed a perfect teaching opportunity by rewarding a child for both theft and invasion of privacy.
Now because of these things, it looks like April will put her true passion on the backburner. True, she does seem to love the animals and handles them well. She treated Shiimsa so much better than her mom did and she also did good work at the farm and clinic. However in remembering all the times music played such an important part in her life, and was always there for her, it is obvious that in her heart she is truly a musician.

Greetings from Afghanistan!

As a Canadian Forces Chaplain, I want to thank you for the support you have shown our troops and our veterans from time to time. Each Remembrance Day you bring the message to your readers that the things they value and the quality of life they enjoy, are won at a great price. The men and women of our Forces are ordinary citizens, just like your readers, but they are called to do extraordinary things to achieve, and to maintain, peace.

Thank you for supporting our troops. God bless you!

Captain Greg Bailey, Afghanistan
