Canada Day Comments

We're out of the studio today to celebrate Canada Day; here is a handful of comments from readers who love the strip.

When my father passed away almost two years ago, my mother was understandably very depressed. They had been married 64 years, and they both enjoyed the strip. Shortly after he died, a new book collection came out, and when I gave it to my mother, her eyes lit up for the first time in months! While we are still learning to live without my dad, life goes on, and FBOFW is an important part of that. Every morning my mother calls me and says, "Have you looked at it yet today?", and we discuss the goings on of the Patterson family and their friends as if we know them. Because we indeed do! Thank you for being a part of our lives!

I see comments on this blog from so many distant places; thought you might want to know there is a HUGE fan right here in North Bay on the shores of beautiful Trout Lake! Thank you for being part of my life for so long - Elly is one of my best friends! The events in our lives that have mirrored each other are numerous; birth of a child at a "not-so-young" age, death of a parent, the "Big 5-0", graduation of children - one of them from the Faculty of Education at Nipissing...thank you for letting Elly be there with me. Just know, Lynn, that we love you and are proud of you here in good old North Bay!

I love FBorFW! I have read it since Lizard Breath still drooled over Michael's toys. I see Ellie in myself as she ages and takes on life.

The growth of a family and watching the trials and tribulations they go through are all so real. They touch a part of our hearts that as "real" peolple we fear to tread (ie "the fire", Farley's death after saving April). what person would fail to have the real emotions that are protrayed by this family on paper.

FBorFW is definately three dimentional comic in a two dimentional format.

Though it is just a comic it is a format for teaching how to live respectfully.

I just want to tell you how much I have enjoyed growing up with the Pattersons! I was especially touched by the way you dealt with Gordon over the years. He is like so many young men I know who have defeated the odds to become successful men who achieve their goals because of their honesty and determination. I wish you would go on writing this strip forever! I want to sit in a rocking chair at a retirement home someday, reading about Michael's grandchildren!
