Some comments on Shannon's storyline

We've received an interesting mix of comments regarding Shannon's current story arc! Here's a sampling of what people have had to say.

I love the storyline about Shannon! I work with "challenged" children and teens and feel that Shannon is saying a lot of what "my" kids would say if they had the courage! Way to go Shannon!!!!! Give it to em girl!

The current story line is beyond offensive. It's preachy and cloying and does nothing to advance the cause of real individuals with disabilities. I know Shannon is based on a real person, but you have no idea how students with disabilities are really treated in school. With rare exceptions, they are treated with respect and kindness, especially in high schools. Today's young people have grown up with inclusion and lessons on tolerance. Give the young people of today a little more credit. You have depicted a world where the only classy people are Pattersons. So offensive!

I read todays strip and I say "Brava" to Shannon and her standing up for herself and her friends. I hope everyone who reads this takes an hour to consider the last several strips. I am totally behind you of this Bless you for your constant courage, bravery and the intestinal fortitude for a lot of what you do - I realize they are real things, But the names have been changed to protect the innocent. That is one of the reasons that yours is the only fix I have to have every day.
May the Light continue to shine upon you and yours, keep you healthy and constantly growing You go girl!!
Thanks Again, really

I love the strips with Shannon. As the older sister of a disabled person I think you are doing a fine job in a way no one else has come close.

As a former speech and language pathologist, I want to thank you for highlighting the school experience of children with special needs. I am so happy to see Shannon stand up against the bullies. Please continue this story line. More advocacy has to occur to ensure full inclusion for all people with disabilities.

I would like to say kudos to Lynn and everyone at FBorFW! Especially that Shannon is standing up to others asking to accept her and others like her for who they are! My wife and myself have worked with children with disabilities and for me to see them actually trying to fit in with others is a disappointment when they are ignored, humiliated or rejected by those who just don't understand, but a smile (and a tear in my eye) when I see that they keep on trying and don't quit!
