High Drama in High School

Dawn immediately regretted meddling and destroyed the note before Anthony read it, but by that time the deed was done - word was out that they liked one another, and the pair connected at last.

Their new coupledom caused predictable problems - how do they spend time with one another without ignoring their friends? What'll Mike do when he finds out his little sister has a boyfriend? How will Anthony deal with Liz's "disgusting brother"? How do they get rid of April when they're trying to "study" in the Pattersons' basement?

Liz, Dawn and Anthony often formed a comfortable group together. When other people got involved, though, teenage drama followed close behind.

In these strips, we see a young Candace Halloran and Liz's best friend, Dawn Enjo. Candace was a troubled youngster and a loose cannon when it came to maintaining harmony within Liz's group of friends. She'd later shave her head and go through a wild phase, but in 1994 she simply acted in ways which were unfathomable to Liz and her other friends. Candace was a fixture in Liz's group, and as the more aggressive of the girls, often took events in a direction the more passive Liz couldn't predict or prevent.

Of all Liz's friends, Anthony seemed to have the most insight into Candace's behaviour and never seemed to get upset with her like the others did.

Still, he was a typical teenaged kid in some respects, although he was able to see through Candace's facades and have some compassion for her. He and Liz remained friends, and it was clear that they still cared for one another even though their first attempts at dating hadn't been smooth.

In 1997, Liz and Anthony reconnected at the age of sixteen. Liz had grown more confident and asked Anthony out to the movies.

After a promising start, they ran into the predictable "couple troubles" that come from being teenagers in love, and Liz found herself occasionally weeping into her pillow.

By 1997, they're still together and Elly and John are doing their best to keep them well-supervised.

While he could be occasionally tactless, Liz could appreciate Anthony's sense of humour.

In 1998, they attended their high-school graduation dance together.
