Elly was a young housewife at the beginning of the strip. She worked as a newspaper columnist and then at the library while her kids were young. When they got older, she got a job at Lilliput's bookstore, which she eventually bought.

In 1991 she gave birth to April, a surprise baby who was delivered at home during an ice storm. Toward the end of the strip, Elly sold the bookstore and retired to enjoy travelling and being a grandma.

A Random Fact About elly:
One of Elly's guilty pleasures is re-watching The Sound of Music – preferably with a large bowl of popcorn and bottle of root beer beside her.
