In the fall of 1994, young April let Connie's dog, Sera, out of the back yard. The sequence of strips that followed made up one of Lynn's more memorable storylines: the arrival of Edgar, the Pattersons' second dog and the son of Sera and Farley.

Wearing down their parents a little at a time, the Patterson kids try to convince Elly and John that they should adopt one of Sera's puppies, since they are Farley's offspring. Connie is happy to help convince the Pattersons, considering that it was April who got Sera into her predicament in the first place.

Christmas brings a little more chaos to the Pattersons as they give in and adopt Edgar from Connie. The new addition blends into the family well; he and Farley have a good relationship and the Pattersons grow accustomed to having the extra element of chaos present in their home.
